The New York State Society of Professional Engineers Announces their 2013 Award Recipients


Albany, NY— Founded in 1926, the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE) will hold its annual meeting June 6-7, 2013, at the High Peaks Resort, Lake Placid New York, and presented the following awards:

Engineer of the Year
Brian A. Brooker, PE
NYSSPE’s top honor.                                                                                                                       

Recognizes a Professional Engineer for his or her engineering achievements and outstanding contributions to the engineering profession.

Outstanding Engineering Achievement                     
Daylighting of Saw Mill River at Larkin Plaza
PS & S Engineering Inc. and the City of Yonkers

Recognizes outstanding engineering achievements that have captured the innovative and dynamic spirit of a profession dedicated to public service.

Outstanding Professional Engineer in Management
Walid Najjar, PE

To recognize a professional engineer who has made an outstanding contribution to the goals of the engineering profession and the Society of Professional Engineers through his or her demonstrated managerial ability and achievement.

Contribution to Education
Maureen S. Valentine, PE

To recognize an individual whose activities or contributions in the field of Education have broad and lasting effects on the goals of the engineering profession or the Society of Professional Engineers.

Meritorious Service
Lawrence O. Connor, PE, LS, F.NSPE

To recognize a professional engineer who has made an outstanding contribution to the goals of the Society of Professional Engineers over an extended period of time.

Young Engineer of the Year
Vanessa Mcpherson, P.E.

Recognizes a young PE or intern engineer who has made an outstanding contribution to the goals of the NYSSPE by means of educational, collegiate and engineering achievements.

Professional Engineers in Government

Government Engineer of the Year
Timothy Lynch, PE

To recognize a professional engineer in Government who, during a career in public service, has made an outstanding contribution to public health, safety and/or welfare, the engineering profession, and the goals of the Society of Professional Engineers through demonstrated managerial ability and professional engineering achievement. 

Professional Engineers in Construction

Construction Project of the Year

MTA Capital Construction and Parson Brinkerhoff

The nomination criteria include significant infrastructure construction projects carried forward by successful private firms or public agencies involved in our infrastructure design and construction. 

Additionally, the criteria include construction projects that implement significant professional engineering efforts in developing creative solutions for maintaining infrastructure as well as in the development of new technologies in the construction of future infrastructure projects. 

The awards will be given out at our annual conference during the dinner on June 7th at the High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid, New York.  Please register now for the conference and join us in beautiful Lake Placid.

The New York State Society of Professional Engineers, Inc. is a statewide professiona organization with 21 local chapters and over 2,500 members.
